Customers at George wanting to look their very best this January will be able to pick up a men's two piece suit and still come away with change from £20.
The black, single breasted, back vented, three buttoned suit, whose design is more akin to the catwalk rather than the supermarket aisle, will sell for just £15 and hits stores across the country from Wednesday 16th January 2008.
The suit normally sells for £19 for the jacket and £6 for the trousers, but kind hearted designers at George have decided to save customers £10 until Sunday, at a time when they are most strapped for cash after Christmas and the New Year.
With 60,000 going into stores George anticipates that they will fly out. Last year when the retailer offered a similar suit for £19 it sparked a fashion frenzy with George selling the largest amount of men's tailoring in one week, in its 18 year history.
The £15 price tag doesn't come at the expense of design and quality. The inspiration comes from the catwalks of Milan and the suit has more than a passing resemblance to one featured in Dolce and Gabbana ads that grace the pages of men's glossies.
George has a team of expert menswear designers working on men's tailoring throughout the year with nearly 120 years experience. In fact its master tailor is more than familiar with the corridors of power after making bespoke suits for peers in the Houses of Parliament.
"We've tailored the price but not cut on the design quality, meaning that for £15 you can get Saville Row inspired tailoring at supermarket prices," said Fiona Lambert, George's brand director.
The suit is made from 100% polyester and is machine washable. Its easy care finish means that it's also crease resistant. To bring customers the suit at such fantastic prices George buys material by the mile rather than the yard.
It then passes these cost savings, delivered by economies of scale, directly to customers through tiny margins.
The way that George has sourced the suit also means you can pick it up with a clear conscience.
Its dedicated sourcing team has ensured that it is sourced in line with the Ethical Trading Initiative's code of practice. This is achieved by having long term relationships with a smaller number of factories that are shared with other well known high street stores, through regular independent audits and by George colleagues regularly visiting factories. George has a zero tolerance approach to abuse of any kind. If examples are found the retailers works with the supplier to put things right.
The suit is sourced from China and Bangladesh.
The suit follows in the footsteps of a tuxedo at £35, a full school uniform at £9.96 and a wedding dress for £60. For customers with a full wallet George tailoring runs to £70 for a single breasted herringbone striped suit.
