Leading supermarket ASDA last night swept the board with three top prizes at The Grocer's annual awards. In addition to scooping lowest priced supermarket for an incredible 11th year in a row, ASDA also picked up the Best for Service Award and the Best for Availability Award – an industry first.
Andy Bond, ASDA CEO and President, said:
“This is an outstanding achievement and a very proud moment. These awards are a real testament to the fantastic work and dedication of all the colleagues across the company.
“We have an unrivalled commitment and passion to make great quality goods and services more affordable and accessible, and at the same time, deliver outstanding service to the millions of customers who shop with us. Great retailing is based on price, availability and service - winning all three of these awards shows ASDA really is getting this right.
“In my view, there’s never been a more important time to win the lowest priced supermarket award as millions of shoppers are starting to really feel the effects of the credit crunch and the rising cost of energy. Customers need the reassurance that they are getting the lowest prices for their shopping and this independent price award, for the 11th year in a row, shows that is exactly what all our customers get every time they shop at ASDA.”
Adam Leyland, Editor of The Grocer, said: “This is the first time in the history of the awards that a single supermarket has won all three awards in The Grocer 33 – for price, availability and service.
"ASDA has long been known to be the cheapest supermarket, but to marry that with the strongest availability and the best customer service is a great achievement. It's also vastly improved the range and variety of products. I'm really impressed with the turnaround.”
