ASDA today (Friday, 05 January 2007) announced it would be slashing fuel at all of its 167 petrol stations across Great Britain and Northern Ireland from today.
ASDA’s new lower fuel prices will see diesel fall by 1.5p to 89.9 pence per litre (ppl) at all its forecourts, while unleaded will be capped at 85.9 ppl, a reduction of 0.2 ppl.
The latest cut sees diesel pump prices fall to their lowest level in more than a year (December 2005).
ASDA Trading Director, Andy Brem, said: "The unseasonably mild weather so far this winter has reduced heating oil consumption across Europe and the US. This, combined with a fall in the price of crude oil, has helped push prices lower. As always we are the first retailer to pass these savings back to drivers at the pumps."
Diesel has benefited most from the warm winter weather with prices falling back at a time of year when they usually increase.
On top of this price reduction, all ASDA credit and store cardholders are entitled to a further two pence per litre discount when paying for fuel with their card[i].
ASDA's consistently low fuel prices and national pricing stance differs from other forecourt operators where prices are varied in line with local competition.
This means drivers often have to pay more for their fuel if there isn't an ASDA forecourt nearby.
